We all love chasing the 180 - the iconic “one hundred and eighty!” is already ringing in our heads.
But when is going for 180 a hard no-go?
When it would leave you on a bogey number—a total you can’t finish in three darts. Below 170 there are seven: 159, 162, 163, 165, 166, 168, 169.
You want to avoid these at all costs. So if you’re on 339/342/343/345/346/348/349 → do not blindly aim for 180, because you’ll leave 159/162/163/165/166/168/169 (no finish).

Bottom line: don’t land on 339, 342, 343, 345, 346, 348, 349 with your last dart.
Remember: bogey + 180 = pre-bogey → avoid.
