This tip might be the most controversial of all: don’t tell anyone that you have trouble keeping score.
It can be tempting to announce at the beginning of a match that you’re not good at keeping score. Maybe you hope to gain some sympathy or compliments if you do better than expected.
However, here’s where psychology comes into play. Believe in yourself, and you’ll instantly become stronger. You’ll find that a confident attitude has a positive effect on the players as well. If you start by saying you can’t do it well, they will also view you through that lens and may have a more negative attitude.
Even if you don’t feel completely convinced deep down, act with confidence. 'Fake it till you make it' – don’t say you’ll try your best, just show that you can do it!
By maintaining a confident demeanor, you set a positive tone for yourself and the match. Trust in your ability, and others will too.
